Darnell Davenport is a 33-year veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). He joined the LAPD and rose through the ranks of police officer, detective, sergeant, and lieutenant working various patrol, investigative, and administrative assignments. After more than three decades of service, he retired and joined the Birmingham Police Department (BPD) as Deputy Police Chief responsible for the patrol bureau, consisting of four uniformed geographical precincts, and the Tactical Operations Division. During his tenure, he was promoted to Assistant Police Chief.
Over the course of Assistant Chief (AC) Davenport’s law enforcement career, his notable commendations include the Command Leadership Award, a Purple Heart, a Medal of Valor, the Crime Fighter Award, and community awards. AC Davenport’s previous civic leadership includes tenure as Vice President of the Association of Black Law Enforcement Executives, former membership in the Oscar J. Bryant Association as well as the International Association of Police Chiefs.
AC Davenport has a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from California State University, Northridge; a master’s degree in Public Administration from California State University, Fullerton. AC Davenport is also a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, National Academy.
